GENERAL INFORMATION

The very modern Scottish Parliament Building sits at the end of the Royal Mile. After a national referendum in 1997, the people voted for their own directly-elected Scottish Parliament to legislate on most domestic affairs. This devolved power from Westminster, now known as the UK Parliament, and the Scottish Parliament Building was constructed between 1999 and 2004. You can visit (not during Covid) and witness the government at work in this award-winning building.

Insider Tip

As this is a government building, expect some additional security. But you can visit for free once Covid is no longer a concern!
