GENERAL INFORMATION

An official English Heritage site, the ruins of Whitby Abbey are some of one of the most recognizable sites in North Yorkshire. Originally built in 657, the site is famous for being the home of the first known English language poet and for being the inspiration for the novel Dracula.

Insider Tip

Even if you don’t have time to go inside, you can still walk around the grounds and the shop without a ticket. Whitby Brewery across the street is a great place to sit and take it all in with a local beer.
